Preparing For The Theory Test

There are many different resources available to help you pass your theory test. The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) publish a range of official books, CD ROMs and DVDs aimed at providing people with the knowledge and skills they need when learning to drive. All of these products are widely available and can be bought from the DSA Official Bookstore, High Street bookshops and many online retailers.

The Highway Code

We recommend you thoroughly read The Highway Code - this is essential reading for everyone. Its rules apply to all road users: pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists, as well as motorcyclists and drivers. The sooner you read this important book the easier you will find it to understand the rules of the road, and incorporate what you learn from it into your driving.

All of the answers to the multiple choice questions you will be asked in your theory test can be found in The Highway Code. It also contains laws which you must observe at all times to remain safe and ensure that you enjoy many years of incident-free driving.

Online Theory Test Practice

You can complete the DSA theory test practice for free online. There are two sample tests provided for free. If you decide you want access to more theory tests you can pay for further access, and in return the DSA will give you a discount on learning materials purchased through the DSA Official Bookstore.

Hazard Perception

Every time you drive with your instructor you will be gaining vital experience that will help you in the Hazard Perception part of the Theory Test. There are also example or mock tests available for purchase through the DSA Official Bookstore.
